AFL is the Australia Football League. The League is comprised of 16 clubs that compete within 22 matches each season. The AFL has the third largest sports following in the world, averaging about 35,000 people per game.
The Australian Rules football was first seen in the year 1897 and was referenced as the VFL which stood for Victorian Football League. This was because the league only consisted of Victorian clubs. In 1990, it was later renamed to AFL due to its recognition as a national sport.
Unlike many sports events, AFL rounds are longer than a day event. They will typically span over a weekend encompassing Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The round will usually consist of 8 games. This largely differs from American Football such as the NFL because they play 4 quarters of the game over a couple hour period.
Currently, AFL has teamed up with some major names across many industries creating a sound monetary foothold. This is not likely to change in the years to come due to the fact that the attendance to games is continually increasing while the popularity and relationships with partnering companies grows even stronger.
